GBP USD Forecast Today, 22 October 2026: Take Profit Or Let It Run? The 4 Hour Stop Is Now 48 Pips In Front Of Entry
This GBP USD forecast today starts three days ago.
On 19 October we published how to buy a pullback without catching a falling knife, using the GBPUSD board as the example. The 4 hour and the daily pointed up. The fast charts had turned down in a pullback. We laid out a three step method: the trend, the pullback, the trigger.
Three days later, every step has played out on the chart.
The trigger came. A fresh 1 hour buy reached two targets and closed 41.3 pips in front of its entry. The 4 hour buy from 16 October now has its trailing stop 48.5 pips in front of its entry. And GBPUSD is trading around 1.3397, about 64 pips higher than on the day we wrote the method down.
This is how it is done with Direction Sniper. And it brings us to the question every trader faces once a trade starts working: take profit now, or let it run?
1. Three Days Ago: The Pullback

On 19 October the GBPUSD board looked like this:
- The trend: the 4 hour and the daily both read UP, so the verdict was BUY
- The pullback: the 15 minute, 30 minute and 1 hour had all turned DOWN
- The 4 hour buy from 1.33036 was running, with its trailing level at 1.32465, still 57 pips behind the entry
A trader without the panel saw a falling chart and had two bad choices. Buy the dip on a guess and hope it was the bottom. Or decide the trend was over and sell into it.
The panel did neither. It held the BUY verdict, because the 4 hour and the daily never turned, and it waited for the third step: a faster chart turning back up.
2. What Happened Next: The Trigger, And Two Targets Reached
On 20 October at 06:00 the 1 hour turned back up and printed a buy at 1.33263. The stop was marked 27.8 pips below, at 1.32985, before the trade began.
- Target 1 at 1.33541: reached
- Target 2 at 1.33820: reached
- Target 3 at 1.34098: not reached
As GBPUSD climbed, the trailing level followed the structure of the chart up behind the trade. When price dipped back, the ticket closed at its trailing stop at 1.33676, which is 41.3 pips in front of its entry. That is about one and a half times the distance the ticket risked when it opened.
Status: Closed at trailing stop.
Read the three steps again, then read this section. The trend, the pullback, the trigger, two targets reached, and an exit in front of the entry. That is the whole method, start to finish, on one chart in three days.
3. Today’s Question: Take Profit Or Let It Run?

Now the 4 hour.
| Level | |
|---|---|
| Entry, buy | 1.33036 (16 Oct 08:00) |
| Original stop | 1.31673, so 136.3 pips of risk |
| Trailing stop now | 1.33521 |
| Target 1 | 1.34399 |
| Target 2 | 1.35762 |
| Target 3 | 1.37125 |
Three days ago the trailing level sat 57 pips behind the entry. Today it sits 48.5 pips in front. In total it has tightened 184.8 pips, more than the whole 136.3 pips the trade risked at the start.
Price is about 93 pips above the entry, roughly 68 percent of the way to Target 1.
This is the moment the trap opens. The trade is working, and the fear of giving it back gets louder with every pip. So the trader closes it early, at 1.3397, short of Target 1. Not because the chart changed. Because his nerves did.
Here is what the panel shows instead. If price fell all the way back to the trailing level, the ticket would still close 48.5 pips in front of its entry. The worst case of this trade is already decided, in the trader’s favour. So there is no chart reason to rush the exit.
Let the trailing level take you out. Do not take yourself out.
The panel calculates and shows that level, and labels it TRAILING STOP rather than STOP LOSS once it moves. The trader adjusts the order on the platform.

4. The Two New Tickets, Sitting Just Behind Entry

This morning the fast charts lined up again with the BUY verdict.
| Chart | Entry | Stop | Risk | Targets |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| M15 | 1.34057 (22 Oct 06:15) | 1.33833, trail now 1.33852 | 22.4 pips | 1.34281, 1.34504, 1.34728 |
| M30 | 1.34054 (22 Oct 06:30) | 1.33839, trail now 1.33857 | 21.5 pips | 1.34269, 1.34484, 1.34699 |

Both printed near the top of a quick spike to about 1.3410, and GBPUSD has slipped back since. At the time of writing, the 15 minute sits 8.8 pips behind its entry and the 30 minute 9.3 pips behind. Neither has reached a target yet.
We publish these as they are. Not every ticket starts in front, and these two have barely begun. What matters is that each one arrived with its stop already marked, so the risk was known to the pip before entry.
And that is the point of section 6.
5. What To Watch Next
The levels that matter:
- The 15 minute and 30 minute trailing stops sit together around 1.3385. A dip through there closes both new tickets.
- The 4 hour trailing stop is at 1.33521. That is the level that would close the main ticket, 48.5 pips in front of its entry.
- The 4 hour Target 1 is at 1.34399, about 43 pips above price.
Nobody knows which comes first. What the panel gives you is the map: where each ticket ends, and where the next target sits.
What would change the picture: if the 4 hour turned DOWN while the daily stayed UP, the verdict would move to NO TRADE and the panel would stop looking for buys. Today every timeframe reads UP.
6. A 136 Pip Stop And A 22 Pip Stop: Same Risk, Different Lots
GBPUSD is quoted in US dollars, so one pip on a standard lot is about $10. Here is what $50 of risk, 0.5 percent of a $10,000 account, looks like on today’s tickets.
| Chart | Stop distance | Lot size for $50 of risk |
|---|---|---|
| M15 | 22.4 pips | about 0.22 lots |
| M30 | 21.5 pips | about 0.23 lots |
| H1 | 27.8 pips | about 0.18 lots |
| H4 | 136.3 pips | about 0.037 lots |
The 4 hour ticket needs about one sixth of the lot size of the fast tickets to risk the same $50. Same risk, measured properly. And because the risk was sized from the stop, letting the 4 hour run today is a calm decision, not a nervous one.
What if your account is small? On a $100 account, 0.5 percent is 50 cents. A 0.01 lot on the 4 hour ticket risks about $13.63, which is 13.6 percent of the account on one trade. Far too much.
A cent account solves this, because lots are measured in hundredths of a standard lot, so the size you need becomes possible. For small balances we recommend a RoboForex Cent account or an XM Micro account. These are partner links, so we may receive a commission at no cost to you.
We risk at most 2 percent per trade, usually 0.5 percent. If you are worrying about every trade, your lot size is still too big.
From Pullback To Protected: That Is Direction Sniper
Put the last three days together.
On 19 October the chart was falling and most traders were guessing. Direction Sniper held one verdict, BUY, and waited. When a faster chart turned back up, it printed a ticket with the stop already marked. Two targets were reached. The exit came in front of the entry. And the 4 hour trade underneath it all now has its worst case locked in front of its entry too.
No guessing where the pullback ends. No guessing where the stop goes. No guessing when to get out.
The Direction Sniper 28 Pair Edition puts this exact panel on GBPUSD and 27 other pairs:
- Direction. One verdict from the 4 hour and the daily. Through the whole GBPUSD pullback it never stopped saying BUY.
- Pullbacks that have not broken structure. The panel waits through the dip, then prints the ticket when a faster chart turns back up. That is exactly how the 1 hour ticket on 20 October began.
- The stop loss. Every ticket arrives with its stop marked, and the trailing level shows when it has crossed in front of entry, so you can let a working trade run instead of closing it on nerves.

GBP USD Forecast Today: Frequently Asked Questions
What is the GBP USD forecast today, 22 October 2026?
The Direction Sniper panel reads BUY on GBPUSD, because the 4 hour and the daily charts both point up.
The 15 minute, 30 minute and 1 hour also read UP, so the status line shows Buy on M15, M30, H1, H4. Price was trading around 1.3397 at the time of writing.
Should you take profit on GBPUSD now or let it run?
The panel answers that with the trailing level, not with nerves. The 4 hour buy from 1.33036 has its trailing stop at 1.33521, which is 48.5 pips in front of its entry.
If price fell back to that level, the ticket would still close in front of its entry, so nothing on the chart calls for a rushed exit. Let the trailing level take you out, rather than taking yourself out.
What happened after the GBPUSD pullback on 19 October 2026?
On 19 October the 4 hour and daily read UP while the fast charts had turned DOWN in a pullback. On 20 October at 06:00 the 1 hour turned back up and printed a buy at 1.33263, with a stop 27.8 pips below at 1.32985.
It reached Target 1 at 1.33541 and Target 2 at 1.33820, then closed at its trailing stop at 1.33676, which is 41.3 pips in front of its entry. Price reaching a published target level is not the same as a realised result.
How far has the GBPUSD 4 hour trailing stop moved?
The 4 hour buy started on 16 October at 08:00 with a stop at 1.31673, which is 136.3 pips of risk. On 19 October its trailing level sat at 1.32465, still 57 pips behind the entry.
Today it sits at 1.33521, so it has tightened 184.8 pips in total and now sits 48.5 pips in front of the entry. Its targets are 1.34399, 1.35762 and 1.37125. Direction Sniper calculates and shows the trailing level; the trader adjusts the order on the platform.
Why are the new GBPUSD 15 minute and 30 minute tickets behind their entries?
Both printed this morning near the top of a quick spike to about 1.3410: the 15 minute at 1.34057 and the 30 minute at 1.34054. GBPUSD slipped back afterwards, leaving them about 9 pips behind their entries at the time of writing.
Their trailing stops sit together around 1.3385, so the risk on each was known before entry. Not every ticket starts in front, and neither had reached a target when this was written.
What would change the GBP USD forecast?
If the 4 hour chart turned DOWN while the daily stayed UP, the verdict would move to NO TRADE and the panel would stop looking for buy tickets.
The 4 hour trailing stop at 1.33521 is the level that would close the main ticket. The 15 minute and 30 minute tickets would close on a dip through about 1.3385.
What lot size goes with a 22 pip stop on GBPUSD compared with a 136 pip stop?
One pip on a standard GBPUSD lot is about $10. To risk $50, which is 0.5 percent of a $10,000 account, a 22.4 pip stop needs about 0.22 lots, while a 136.3 pip stop needs about 0.037 lots. The risk is the same; only the lot size changes.
On a small account, a cent or micro account lets you size small enough. We risk at most 2 percent per trade, usually 0.5 percent. These figures are arithmetic for illustration, not a recommendation about how much anyone should trade.
Disclaimer: This post reports what the Direction Sniper panel showed on GBPUSD on 22 October 2026. It is educational analysis, not financial advice and not a trade signal service. The 4 hour, 30 minute and 15 minute tickets were still open at the time of writing. Price reaching a published target level is not the same as a realised result. A trailing level sitting in front of entry describes the panel’s level, not any trader’s result, which depends on whether a position existed, at what size, and how the order was managed. Lot sizes are arithmetic for illustration and are not a recommendation about how much anyone should trade. Forex trading carries risk, and you should only trade money you can afford to lose.
