How To Use Currency Strength Today In 3 Steps

Most traders start their morning the hard way. They open chart after chart, look for something that seems to be moving, and pick a pair on gut feel. By the time they find one, the best part of the move is often gone.

Currency strength turns that around. You start with the answer to the most important question, which side of the market is winning, and only then open a chart.

Step 1: Pair The Strong With The Weak

This one step does most of the work.

Take one of the 3 strongest currencies and put it against one of the 3 weakest. Three strong times three weak gives you 9 pairs out of 28. Those are the pairs where one side is being bought across the market and the other side is being sold, so both are pushing price the same way.

The other 19 pairs put currencies of similar strength together: two strong, two weak, or two stuck in the middle. Neither side has the upper hand, so price tends to drift, chop and fake out both buyers and sellers. That is where most frustrating trades are born.

What you get: a shortlist of 9 pairs instead of 28 charts, and the direction already decided. Buy the strong currency. Sell the weak one.

Step 2: Wait For The Entry

Knowing the pair is not the same as knowing the moment.

A strength ranking tells you where to look. It does not tell you when to get in. Even the cleanest strong against weak pair pulls back before it moves again, and jumping in at the wrong moment puts your stop right in the path of that pullback.

So we wait for the chart to confirm. On the Direction Sniper panel, the 4 hour and the daily set the direction, and a ticket only prints when a faster chart turns back the same way. Every ticket arrives with its entry, stop and three targets already marked, so you know the full plan before you place a single order.

What you get: no more chasing. You enter when the pair lines up, not when you get impatient.

Step 3: Size The Trade

This is the step that keeps you in the game.

No ranking and no ticket removes risk. Some trades will reach their stop, and that is normal. What decides whether a losing trade is a small cost or a disaster is the size you traded.

So decide how much you are willing to lose before you place the order. We risk at most 2 percent per trade, usually 0.5 percent. On a $10,000 account, that is $50, whatever the pair.

Here is why that matters. On EURUSD, where one pip on a standard lot is about $10:

  1. A 20 pip stop: $50 of risk is about 0.25 lots.
  2. A 50 pip stop: the same $50 is about 0.10 lots.

Same risk, very different lot sizes. A wider stop does not mean more risk. It means a smaller lot. Our free Lot Size Calculator works it out in seconds for any of the 28 pairs.

What you get: every trade, winner or loser, costs you only what you decided it could cost. If you are worrying about every trade, your lot size is still too big.

What Is Currency Strength, And Why Trade It?

Every currency trade is two currencies

When you buy EURUSD, you are buying the euro and selling the US dollar at the same time. The pair rises when the euro gains on the dollar, and falls when the dollar gains on the euro.

So a pair never moves on its own. It moves because one side is stronger than the other.

The problem with reading one chart

Look at EURUSD rising and you cannot tell who is doing the work. Is the euro strong? Or is the dollar weak?

The answer matters. If the dollar is weak everywhere, it is falling against the pound, the yen and the Canadian dollar too, and EURUSD is only one of many pairs telling the same story. If only the euro is moving, the story is about the euro, and the dollar pairs may be going nowhere.

One chart cannot show you that. All 28 pairs can.

The strategy: strong against weak

Here is the idea at the heart of currency strength.

Put the strongest currency against the weakest, and you get the pair with the most force behind it. One side is being bought across the market. The other is being sold across the market. Both are pushing the pair in the same direction.

Now think about the opposite. Pair two strong currencies, and both sides are being bought. Pair two weak ones, and both sides are being sold. Neither side has an edge, and price tends to drift and chop.

That is why we start every trading day with the ranking, not with a chart.

Trend, not today's move

Most free currency strength meters measure the last 24 hours of price change. That tells you who moved the most today.

We look at something slower on purpose: which currency has the trend behind it on the bigger charts. A one day bounce does not flip the ranking. It only changes when the bigger charts themselves turn.

That is also why two meters can show opposite answers on the same afternoon. We explain it in full in our guide to why currency strength meters disagree.

Strength picks the pair. It does not pick the moment.

The ranking narrows 28 pairs down to a handful. It does not tell you where to enter, where your stop goes, or how big to trade.

That is the job of the Direction Sniper panel. It reads the direction on the 4 hour and the daily, waits for a faster chart to turn back the same way, and only then prints a ticket with its entry, stop and three targets.

A live example: USDCAD on 30 October 2026

On 30 October, the US dollar was the weakest currency on our board and the Canadian dollar was the strongest. USDCAD put the two against each other.

Every timeframe on the Direction Sniper panel read DOWN on USDCAD, from the 15 minute to the daily, and four sell tickets were on the board. The 15 minute had already reached Target 1 the same morning.

That is the whole idea in one pair: the ranking pointed to it, and the panel confirmed it. You can read the full breakdown in our USD CAD forecast for 30 October.

How We Pick The 3 Strongest And 3 Weakest

1. We start with all 28 pairs. Every major, minor and cross between the eight major currencies: the US dollar, the euro, the British pound, the Japanese yen, the Swiss franc, and the Australian, Canadian and New Zealand dollars. All read at the same moment.

2. Every currency appears in 7 pairs. The euro, for example, trades against the dollar, the pound, the yen, the franc, and the Australian, Canadian and New Zealand dollars.

3. On each pair, we read which side the trend favours. We use the trend on the bigger charts, not the last few hours of price.

4. We look at each currency across all 7 of its pairs. A currency the trend favours almost everywhere ranks strong. One that loses on most of its pairs ranks weak. Those in between sit in the middle.

5. The top 3 and the bottom 3 make the board. Pairing them gives the strong against weak pairs we watch that day.

6. It is a snapshot. The ranking shows the board at the time we publish. It can change during the day if the bigger charts turn, which is why every read carries its date.

Currency Strength Today: Frequently Asked Questions

The board on this page is an example. Subscribers get the current one every trading morning.

1What is currency strength today?+

Currency strength today ranks the eight major currencies from strongest to weakest, read across all 28 forex pairs. Every pair is two currencies pulling against each other, so the ranking shows which side is doing the work.

We send the 3 strongest and 3 weakest every trading morning, along with the pairs that put a strong currency against a weak one.

2Which is the strongest currency today?+

The strongest currency changes as the market moves. Every trading morning we email subscribers the 3 strongest and 3 weakest currencies, and publish the full read in our Currency Strength Today posts.

The board at the top of this page is an example of what that looks like. Each ranking is a snapshot at the time of publishing, and it can change during the day if the bigger charts turn.

3How do you pick the 3 strongest and 3 weakest currencies?+

We read all 28 pairs at the same moment. Every currency appears in 7 pairs, and on each one we read which side the trend on the bigger charts favours.

A currency the trend favours almost everywhere ranks strong. One that loses on most of its pairs ranks weak. The top 3 and bottom 3 make the board.

4How do I use currency strength to pick a forex pair?+

Pair one of the 3 strongest currencies with one of the 3 weakest. That gives 9 pairs worth watching out of 28, because both sides are pushing the pair the same way.

Pairs that put two strong or two weak currencies together have no clear edge, and price tends to drift and chop.

5Why is your ranking different from other currency strength meters?+

Most free meters measure the last 24 hours of price change, so they show who moved the most today. We read which currency has the trend behind it on the bigger charts.

A one day bounce can push a currency up a 24 hour meter while the trend still has it on the weak side. Both readings can be true at the same time.

6Does currency strength tell me when to enter a trade?+

No. Currency strength tells you where to look, not when to enter or where your stop goes.

On the Direction Sniper panel, the entry comes when a ticket prints, with its entry, stop and three targets.

7What lot size should I use?+

We risk at most 2 percent per trade, usually 0.5 percent, which is $50 on a $10,000 account. A wider stop does not mean more risk. It means a smaller lot.

Use the Lot Size Calculator to work out your own size. These figures are for illustration, not a recommendation about how much anyone should trade.

8Is currency strength today a trade signal service?+

No. It is educational analysis and our opinion, published so you can see how we read the market.

No currency strength ranking predicts what price will do next. Forex trading carries risk, and you should only trade money you can afford to lose.

What Is Inside Every Read

The verdict on both metals
Buy, sell, or no trade, one word each for gold and silver, so that you know where you stand before you open a single chart.

The 4 hour and daily direction
The two timeframes that decide which way the market is leaning, so that you stop taking trades against the bigger move.

Which entry timeframes have turned
The 15 minute, 30 minute and hourly, each marked up or down, so that you can see whether the timing matches the direction or the fast charts are running against it.

The levels, when a ticket appears
Entry, stop and three targets exactly as the panel calculated them, so that you have real numbers to compare against your own chart instead of a vague call.

What would change it
One line on what would have to happen for the picture to flip, so that you know exactly what to watch for tomorrow morning.

The Trader You Become. The Better You.

You open your platform in the morning already knowing where gold and silver stand. No scrolling through timeframes trying to work out what is happening.

You see a setup on the 15 minute chart and the first thing you check is whether it agrees with the bigger picture. If it does not, you leave it. That one habit removes most of the trades that were losing you money.

You stop needing an opinion on where gold is going. You read what the chart is doing instead, which is a much easier question to answer.

You get comfortable doing nothing. Some days there is no direction, and you close the platform without a position. That used to feel like a wasted day. Now it feels like a decision.

You start thinking in timeframes rather than prices. You notice when the fast charts turn before the slow ones, and you understand what that sequence means instead of reacting to each candle.

None of this is about winning more trades. It is about knowing which ones to take, and being willing to skip the rest.

It Costs Nothing.

Here Is Why You Should Take It.

This is free. There is no upsell attached to the read itself, and no catch to explain.

The reason it is worth your inbox space is simple. You will read the direction on gold and silver every trading day whether you get this email or not. You will either work it out yourself across four timeframes each morning, or you will skip that step and trade the first setup you see.

This does the first thing for you in two minutes.

Do that for a few weeks and something changes. You start recognizing the pattern before the email arrives. You see the 15 minute turn up, then the 30 minute, then the hourly, and you know what is happening because you have watched it play out in the reads. That is the part you keep, and it costs you nothing to build.

The only thing we ask is that you read them. An email you never open helps neither of us.
